Živá vila

During the last two years, the Kral villa in Prachatice has been among the main independent cultural centres of the south Bohemia. This important functionalist building, built in between 1930 - 1932 by a Viennese architect Fritz Reichel, was taken care of by an association Živá vila. It organized tens of concerts, exhibitions, lectures or theatre performances here. But the activities of the members of the association - who at the same time tried to protect the building from the nonsensical demolition due to the construction of a bypass - was an eyesore for Prachatice councilmen. They decided to withdraw from the contract of lease, and for a certain also prevented the declaration of the villa as a monument. According to Prachatice mayor Martin Malý it makes no sense to take care of the building until the Minstry of Culture decision is announced. It is now being examined, which public interest dominates - if the architectural and cultural value of the villa from the period of the First Czechoslovakian Republic, or the building of the road, which had been planned already since the 1970s and its realization is far away. The councilmen refuse to start a new contract of lease until the Ministry decision is clear, and villa slowly deteriorates.
